New Documentary Showcases Plight of Deported Immigrants

Central Florida Immigrant

A documentary that premiered December 9, 2018, describes the struggle of a Central Florida immigrant who was forced to remain in Haiti after returning there in December 2016. Henry Dorvil went back to Haiti to resolve issues with his immigration status. Once there, Dorvil was not allowed to return to the United States for over a year. During this time, he put his experience in the video production field to work by documenting his experiences in Haiti in a film entitled “Help Henry.” Dorvil hopes that his documentary will provide help and encouragement for other immigrants in our area who may be facing problems with federal immigration authorities in our area.

Most of His Life Spent in U.S.

Dorvil grew up in the Orlando area and has lived almost his entire life in the United States. His immigration issues began when he was still a child and continued into adulthood. Although Dorvil owned and operated a video production company in Sanford, Florida, he decided to return to Haiti to resolve his immigration issues voluntarily. After his trip to Haiti, however, Dorvil was refused entry into the U.S. and had to remain there for an extended period of time.

Proceeds to Benefit Foundation

The Henry Dorvil Foundation will receive some of the proceeds from showings of the film. This foundation was established by Dorvil as a way to help other immigrants who may be facing similar problems now or in the future. The documentary will premiere at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center in Sanford.
